working again with Opera Theater Oregon this year, but this time to create a fashion line tied to the theme of Cavalli's Giasone and the Argonauts opera. Useless Woman teamed with StudioChecha to create signature looks for each of the characters that used upcycled and repurposed materials to create a forward-looking fashion line tailored to the characters of the opera.
The line’s central material is neoprene salvaged from donated wetsuits from K2; the designers cut and riveted this rubbery black nautically appropriate fabric into garments for the earthly characters. The gods observing from the clouds of Mount Olympus are lavish with miles of golden strings, gilded rods, and sparkling tulle. And the tormenting harpies bring color, movement, and their own unique fierceness to complete the line. Textiles are a mixture of upcycled linens and donated fabrics (thank you hilleso designs!)
